PAL Camcorders

PAL Camcorder Explained

Camcorders that are known as “PAL” Camcorders play back their

video in countries that support the PAL color system, such as

Europe, China, the Middle East, and South Africa. Camcorders can

record anywhere in the world. It matters where you plan to watch

your footage. Camcorders that record PAL system Do Not play

back on American television. In the United States, our TV color

system is known as “NTSC.” Around the globe there are various

“Television Standards.” These standards are known as NTSC, PAL,

and SECAM, with variations such as PAL-B, PAL-I (United Kingdom),

SECAM-D (China), and SECAM-L (France). The North American

NTSC television standard uses 525 scan lines with 30-frame/60-

ﬁ elds per second, while PAL uses 625 scan lines with 25-frame/50-

ﬁ elds per second rate. There are no multi-standard camcorders.

Camcorders are either NTSC or PAL.
